FAQ (frequently asked questions)

Q:  "I am not a Lutheran, can I still worship at Calvary?"

A:  Absolutely!  Anyone is welcome at Calvary, even if you never have gone to church we welcome you to unite with Calvary.  A New Member Orientation is held as need dictates to acquaint you to the ELCA, to the congregation, and to each other.  We confess "One baptism for the forgiveness of sins" and do not re-baptize children or adults.  So no matter where you came from we are happy to have you!  Watch the video.

Q:  "When are services held?"

A:  From Labor Day to Memorial Day our Sunday worship is at 8:00am and again at 10:15am with Holy Communion on the 1st and 3rd Sundays at both services.  From Memorial Day to Labor Day we offer Sunday worship at 9am.  We also offer a contemporary service on Wednesdays all year beginning at 6pm with Holy Communion the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays.

Q:  "What programs/activities do you have for children?"

A:  We have kids too and understand your desire to worship as a family yet give your kids freedom to discover God on thier terms.  We offer Sunday school for preschoolers through the 6th grade.  Classes are held September through May between the Sunday worship services beginning at 9am.  We have also partner with neighboring churches  for summer Vacation Bible School.  For the teenager in 7th and 8th grade we offer a Confirmation program with Pastor Tim and mission opportunities with our "Experience Youth!" group.

Q:  "What does the logo represent?"

A:  The logo at first glance shows a boat sailing on open water with the sun setting.  A closer view provides so much more detail.  First the mast is made from an anchor and cross which details a promise made by God that He is an "...anchor of the soul..." (Hebrews 6:19) and believing in Him provides for a better tomorrow.  The sail is shown unfurled against a cross showing Gods' promise to us that our sins will be forgiven if we give our whole self to Him through Jesus.  The net in the water promises that if we follow Jesus, He "...will make you (us) fishers of men." (Matthew 4:19) and our bounty will be great.  The water is somewhat "choppy" and shows that life is not easy, but being baptised in the faith and promise of Gods' grace will keep you from sinking.  Lastly, the sunset shows us a promise made by God of a brighter tomorrow.  That by faith and baptism He is freeing us from our sin, freeing us from man-made troubles, and freeing us to live in his image for all to see.
